Removing computers from the studio

Studio WDR

Thanks to KVM, presenters and directors no longer need to place any computers in the studios. To be able to work without any distractions, they both need a quiet, clearly-arranged workplace that they can operate intuitively. In this noise-sensitive working environment it is essential to eliminate noisy fans and emissions from computers. Therefore, expensive computer equipment can work at its best when removed into an access-secured and air-conditioned server room.

How KVM works in studios
A KVM extender system bridges the distance between computers and users. The transmitter accesses the computer's external keyboard, video and mouse interfaces and forwards the signals to the receiver in the studio. Here the user connects any required operating hardware and accesses the remote computer in realtime without noticing the distance. Special broadcast keyboards can be easily integrated into the operating concept.

Extenders auto-execute the setup. They use the existing cabling and, in addition to KVM signals and depending on the requirements, also transmit RS232, USB, and audio signals. A power switching component enables the user to restart the computer remotely.

How KVM improves studios
The IT administrator in charge has easy access in case the computers need to be maintained. The computers are simply accessed from a second console which is installed in the server room and connected to the KVM transmitter. That way, the studio staff can continue their work without any distractions.
