1985 - Year of founding
The Guntermann & Drunck GmbH was founded in the year 1985 by Mr. Udo Guntermann and Mr. Martin Drunck. The company's first product was the Video-Net, distributed by the Philips corporation; it made hardware support for software training possible.
The monitor screen output of one central training computer could be switched to others at will.
1987 - Expansion of the portfolio
As a result of the growing demands for video technology and the permanently continuing development of the G&D products, a new multi-functional PC network was developed which was not only capable of transmitting video images but could also enable keyboard operation: the VN-32 plus.
Spin-offs from this product - such as the Multi-Video Bar, for example - opened further revenue markets.
Through the Multi-Video Bar all common video standards could be transmitted to any number of monitors - and it was already cascadable back then. And, special cables were put together for individual requirements.
1991 – The first KVM switch
Reacting to the demands of the European market, G&D developed the first KVM switch "Multi-PC Control (MPC)", which could operate up to 10 computers from one workplace. The previously realised approaches towards extending, distributing and switching signals were combined in this product.
1995 – KVM switch No. 2
From the MPC, the first KVM switch in current form was developed in 1995. In terms of its functionality it can be considered to be the "grandfather" of today's G&D products: the miniMUX.
Developments in the server market at that time were beneficial to G&D: instead of large mainframe solutions, small server farms took the forefront and personal computers advanced increasingly.
Today
Today, Guntermann & Drunck can look back on more than 20 years of experience in the area of KVM, can rely on its own development capabilities, own production and their own service area.
The analog KVM switches have developed into refined out-of-band management solutions for various IT infrastructures.
