InfoComm 2018: Las Vegas calling again

Every year, InfoComm – America's largest audio-visual event – attracts visitors and exhibitors from around 110 countries to learn more about the latest innovations in AV technology. Guntermann und Drunk GmbH and its US subsidiary GD North America Inc. will present the latest KVM highlights at booth N1864 from June 6 to 8 and provide advice on how to best use KVM in control room applications.

KVM expertise and the broadest KVM portfolio on the market

The company offers the broadest KVM portfolio on the market and specializes in the implementation of sophisticated KVM applications in control rooms. Matrix switch installations create ideal conditions for removing computer equipment from control room workstations into dedicated server rooms. At the remote workstations, the equipment can be accessed via CAT or fiber cabling or, since very recently, also over IP infrastructures.

Features for maximum usability

Based on the extensive portfolio of KVM systems that form the backbone of IT installations, the company provides its customers with a range of user-friendly functionalities that make G&D's systems easy and intuitive to use. This makes work as comfortable and efficient as possible for everyone involved. CrossDisplay-Switching, for example, is particularly suitable for AV applications consisting of several multi-monitor workstations.

The innovative function allows intuitive switching by mouse. The mouse acts as if on a “virtual desktop” and can be moved seamlessly across the connected displays, automatically switching to the corresponding computer. Not only are computers with multihead video supported, but any scenarios from various sources can be displayed on one workstation. The screens can be placed in any order, which does not necessarily have to be a row or a quadrant. Speaking of scenarios, G&D has developed the scenario switching function especially for the control room area. Scenario switching makes it possible to store predefined setups of switching conditions (e.g. day/night scenario). The selected switching states are saved in a script in the matrix system and can be accessed and executed via the OSD of workplaces assigned with the required rights.

One single command switches all computers required at the controller desk from day to night shift. Scenarios for different eventualities such as emergency situations can also be stored quickly and reliably and can be called up when needed.

The push-get function implemented in the matrix systems optimizes team collaboration and helps to accomplish tasks better and together. With the Push-Get function, users can move the screen contents of another control room workstation or a video wall – or get it from there. This allows team members to exchange screen contents and edit them together. To further increase the operational safety and reliability of the systems, G&D's matrix systems feature integrated SNMP and a monitoring function.

Signal transmission is compressed, lossless, and almost latency-free, whereby G&D do not reduce the sharpness during transmission, but use their in-house compression method, High Dynamic Image Processing, in the latest development stage, level 3. This has decisive advantages for customers and takes into account the fact that all systems are compatible and can be combined with each other. Even older digital matrix systems that have been in use for years can be easily upgraded to 4K, without having to replace the entire equipment. This expandability makes the systems 100% future-proof and a safe investment. This way installations can be retrofitted even years later. All G&D systems are plug & play devices. The simple installation and handling increases the user comfort and at the same time reduces the administration effort for the IT staff.

By the way: all control room features are also available for the brand new matrix for KVM-over-IP™ - the ControlCenter-IP.

G&D shines at InfoComm 2018 with matrix for KVM-over-IP™

The matrix switch ControlCenter-IP enables distributed switching of computer signals via standard IP-based networks on layer 3. This way, even the largest IT installations can be implemented via IP access. In combination with IP extender systems the ControlCenter-IP forms a powerful KVM-over-IP matrix that enables the switching of all connected computer and user modules and extends the usability and flexibility of AV installations in control rooms. Operators are able to benefit from a high-performance G&D matrix environment while at the same time using the advantages of a flexible network. Encryption of video, keyboard, mouse and control data with AES-128 ensures secure and reliable operation.

Installations can be scaled as required and extended via standard network elements. Transmission takes place with CAT cabling via standard IP-based networks on layer 3 and via a Gigabit Ethernet. The ControlCenter-IP also comes with G&D's proven latency-free video transmission. DisplayPort1.1 signals can be processed lossless and pixel-perfect. The system supports video resolutions up to 2560 x 1600 @ 60 Hz or 3840 x 2160 @ 30 Hz. Together with the matrix, G&D will also launch more devices for DVI, dual link and DisplayPort 1.2. Thus, the ControlCenter-IP will support the extending and switching of 4K @ 60 Hz.

Visitors of InfoComm can experience the ControlCenter-IP and G&D's broad KVM portfolio at booth N1864 where they will also be able to get individual advice from G&D's KVM experts.
